The plesiosaur was created from blocks of polystyrene that were shaped then glued together, smoothed off and painted. It has subsequently been dismantled, moved to another museum and reassembled.
It was highly effective and helped visitors undertand the size and scale of the marine reptile in comparison to fossilised vertebrae and ribs of the animal
